Men's Tennis Plays for State Title Thursday

The MSJC men's tennis team will play Fresno City College on Thursday in San Diego for the California Community College State Championship.  The Eagles who are 23-5 on the season will take on the Rams beginning at 1 pm at The Balboa Tennis Club in Balboa Park.luisfinals.jpg

The Eagles are riding high after winning the Southern California Finals 5-2 last Tuesday against top ranked College of the Desert.  The win over the Roadrunners was the first in school history over the perennial powerhouse team.

MSJC started the play-offs with a 5-0 win over El Camino and followed that with a 5-1 win over Ventura to set up last week's match with COD.  Fresno enters the state finals as the top seeded team from Northern California.  The Rams beat Cabrillo 5-0, Chabot 5-0, and Foothill 5-4 to reach the finals.  MSJC will be looking for revenge in Thursday's match,  the Eagles lost earlier this season to the Rams 5-1 in Fresno.

After Thursday's team final a number of MSJC players will also compete in the individual state tournament.  Mensford Owusu and Luis Jaimes will compete in the singles tournament as well as joining forces for the doubles competition.  Laszlo Irme and Alex Miehle will also take part in the doubles tournament.
