Men's Tennis Takes Over Second Place Beats Mesa
The MSJC men's tennis team got revenge for an earlier loss as they defeated visiting San Diego Mesa on Tuesday 6-3 to take over second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
The Eagles jumped out of the gates strong and put the match away during the singles portion of the competition as they won 5 of 6 matches. Vitor Galvao started the day with a victory at #1 singles when he won 6-2 and 6-2. Leonardo Matarazzo also picked up a victory in the #2 slot 6-3 and 6-3. Bruno Campos, Thibaud Garces and Thiago Trigo also won in straight sets to clinch the win for MSJC. Gabriel da Costa had a tough loss in the #6 match 6-2, 1-6 and 5-10.
Galvao and Campos teamed up for a doubles victory for MSJC to earn the Eagles their 6th point on the day. When the teams met earlier in the year the Olympians defeated the Eagles 5-4.
With the win MSJC improved to 12-5 overall on the season and 10-3 in PCAC play. The Eagles are now alone in second place in the conference with one regular season match remaining. MSJC will host Imperial Valley on Thursday at 2 pm. The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Finals will be held in Chula Vista April 9th through the 11th.
Leonardo Matarazzo returns a serve on Tuesday during his 6-3, 6-3 singles victory against San Diego Mesa. The Eagles won the match 6-3 to take over sole possesion of second place in the PCAC standings.
