Men's Tennis Loses Battle of Ranked Teams

MSJC Mens tennis comes up short in a match-up of the #4 and 5 ranked teams in Southern California. MSJC, currently ranked #5 in the ITA Preseason rankings played host to #4 Glendale College yesterday afternoon. The match began with the top 6 singles rotation and was a battle of titanic momentum swtiches. #1 player and also ranked #1 in the preseason rankings, Emmanuel Mensah scored a decisive victory in his singles match up over #14 ranked Emmanuel Haug of Glendale College. #3 player Bruno Reich (#17 in the rankings) also played very well and won his singles match against Joey Tresierras. MSJC seemed to be in the drivers seat in the #2 and 6 spots with Carlos Marquez and Ken Hotchkiss having won the 1st sets in their matches, however they both lost their second sets and then could not hold on in the 3rd set deciding 10 point tie-breakers which put the overal score at 4-2 in Glendales favor heading into the doubles match-ups.
Unfortunately, MSJC could not regain the momentum and only managed one more point in the doubles rotation at the #2 spot. This could be a preview of a post season match-up between to very talented programs, it was a hard fought match and the mens team will learn from this early loss in order to prepare for a very demanding remaining preseason schedule followed by a very grueling south coast conference schedule.
