Big First Half Leads to Women's Victory
The MSJC women's basketball team used
stifling defense in the first half Saturday afternoon to build a 32-13 lead at halftime over visiting Cerro Coso on their way to a 58-48 victory.
The win was the Lady Eagles fifth in a row and improved their overall mark to 16-6 while moving to 6-1 in Foothill Conference action. Kaylee Moreno was Mt. San Jacinto's leading scorer on the day with 15 points while Ashley Jenkins recorded a double double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
MSJC had built the lead to 58-32 with just six minutes left in the game before Michelle Hoskins of Cerro Coso sparked a strong finish by the Coyotes.
The Lady Eagles have a big week in front of them this week as they travel to Antelope Valley on Wednesday and then host San Bernardino Valley on Saturday afternoon. AVC is currently ranked 10th in the state and is 5-1 in Foothill action just half a game behind MSJC for second place while SBVC remains the state's #1 ranked team at 19-1 and they are 6-0 in conference games.
Wednesday's game starts at 5:30 and can be heard on the Eagle Radio Network at msjc.edu or locally on AM 1620. Saturday's home game is set to tip off at 1 pm.
