The MSJC men's basketball team lost a tough game to Santa Rosa Junior College on Thursday in the second round of the RCC Holiday Tournament in Riverside 72-63.
The Eagles who were down 2 points at the half, couldn't quite make it over the hump as SRJC seemed to hit big three point baskets every time MSJC threatened to take the lead. Montreal Harris led the Eagle offense with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Sam Natt added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Mylin Jordan came off the bench to score 13 points in the loss.
MSJC bounced back on Friday as they defeated Antelope Valley College 72-64. The Eagles played strong down the stretch as they turned a 7 point halftime deficit into a victory. Harris was once again the top scorer for MSJC with 20 points he also grabbed a team high 13 rebounds. Dwayne Benjamin added 14 points and Natt added 10.
In Saturday's 5th place game in the 16 team tournament MSJC led most of the way, but fell to the host Riverside City College Tigers 61-58. The Eagles had pushed their first half lead to as much as 14, but could not hold on as the Tigers finally took the lead for good at the 3:58 mark of the second half at 55-54. Natt led the Eagles scoring on Saturday with 12 points while Benjamin just missed a double double with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Harris reached double figure scoring for the third straight day with 11 and D'Anthony Peterson collected a team high 5 assists. Harris was named to the All Tournament Team for his play over the 4 game tournament.
The Eagles now stand at 10-3 and will be on a two and a half week break, before playing three straight home games. MSJC returns to action on December 28th when they host Moorpark College at 3 pm. The Eagles will then host Southwestern College on Thursday January 3rd and open Foothill Conference play on Saturday January 7th by hosting Victor Valley College.
