MSJC men’s basketball coach Patrick Springer has stepped down for the 2014-15 season, but will remain at the college in his position as Dean of Physical Education and Athletics.
Springer served as the head coach at MSJC for the past 11 seasons and put together a record of 242-101 in that time. Ten of Springer’s 11 teams reached the post season and twice his teams reached the State Final Eight (2011 & 2014). The Eagles also captured four conference titles in Springer’s tenure, three in the Foothill Conference and one this past season in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. Springer had four seasons of head coaching experience before coming to MSJC, three years at College of the Desert and one season at City College of San Francisco. Springer holds a career record of 312-162 and his teams reached the play-offs 14 of 15 seasons.
“In the best interest of the Physical Education and Athletic Departments I think I would serve the institution best in a singular role for the 2014-15 academic year,” said Springer. “If we are able to complete some critical projects I haven’t ruled out returning as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach for 2015-16.”
Trent Skinner, who has been an assistant at MSJC for the past four seasons, will take over as interim head coach for the Eagles.
