Lady Eagles Beat AVC Move into First
The MSJC softball team ended Antelope Valley's 70 game conference winning streak with a 4-1 win over the visiting Marauder's on Friday, moving the Lady Eagles into a first place tie.
Lynsie Caldwell threw a complete game allowing just 5 hits and striking out 5 for the win. The Lady Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the third when Samantha Martinez led off with a single and then was advanced by Anissa Anglin's sacrifice bunt. With Martinez on third Sam Felipe hit a sacrifice fly to score MSJC's first run. In the fifth MSJC scored two runs on two hits. Angel and Sam Felipe both singled and the bases then became loaded when Caldwell was hit by a pitch. Sammi Rodriguez then smashed a ball to first base which was misplayed allowing both Felipes to score on the play. The Lady Eagles added one more run in the sixth when Anglin drove in Jen Strawbridge with a single.
Angel Felipe finished the game 3 for 3 from the lead off spot while Sam Felipe had two hits an RBI, a sacrifice, and a stolen base in the game. With the win MSJC improved their record to 10-1 in Foothill Conference play with one game remaining. The Lady Eagles can now finish no lower than second place and have qualified for the play-offs. MSJC finishes up conference play with a game at Chaffey on Friday at 3 pm. If the Lady Eagles and Antelope Valley tie for the conference title the two teams will meet in a one game play-off next week.
