Lady Eagles Lose Tough One at Mesa
The MSJC softball team gave themselves a chance on Friday, but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Mesa College in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game in San Diego.
The Lady Eagles took an early 1-0 lead when Roni Alonzo hit a solo homerun in the top of the first inning. MSJC held the lead until the bottom of the third when Mesa scored twice to take a 2-1 advantage. The Lady Eagles knotted the game at two a piece in the top of the fourth when Rayna Winters drove in Alonzo with a triple. The Olympians would take the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth when they scored two runs to make it 4-2. The Lady Eagles tried to mount one more rally as Lindsey Lashook drilled a solo homer to cut the lead to one, but that is all MSJC could manage in the 7th.
Lauren Partnoff was the tough luck loser in the circle for MSJC, throwing a complete game and allowing just five hits. The loss dropped the Lady Eagles to 14-21 overall on the season and 3-12 in PCAC play.
MSJC has two home games remaining on the year and both are this week. The Lady Eagles host San Diego City on Wednesday and Grossmont on Friday. Both games will begin at 3 pm at Wheatfield Park in Menifee.
Rayna Winters (pictured) had an RBI triple and teammates Roni Alonzo and Lindsey Lashook each hit solo homeruns, but the MSJC softball team fell in a PCAC game at San Diego Mesa 4-3 on Friday.
