Aleena Bahling hit a one out triple in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday to drive home the winning run as the MSJC softball team defeated Rio Hondo 5 to 4.
The Lady Eagles held a 3-1 lead after four innings before the Roadrunners tied the game with two runs in the top of the fifth. MSJC responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Rio forced extra innings when they scored in the top half of the seventh. In the top of the eighth Rio got two runners on, but Bahling who was also the winning pitcher in the game, got Rio's lead off hitter to ground out to shortstop to end the threat. In the bottom of the inning Alicia Landucci led off with a single and was sacrificed
to second by Tiffanye Camden setting up Bahling's winning hit.
Landucci finished the day 3 for 4 with a homerun, while lead off hitter Mariah Borjon went 2 for 4 with a triple. The Lady Eagles had 10 hits in all on the day. Bahling went the distance in the circle allowing 11 hits and 3 earned runs while walking just one and striking out two.
The win improved MSJC to 5-15-1 on the season and 3-5 in Foothill Conference play. Rio fell to 7-16 and 4-4. The Lady Eagles are back in action on Friday when they host Barstow College at Wheat Field in Menifee starting at 3 pm.
