MSJC Softball Drops Home Opener

The MSJC softball team played their first home game of the 2013 season on Wednesday and came up on the short end against Palomar 13-5.

The Lady Eagles were led on offense by Renee Rayls who went 3 for 4 with a double while Roni Alonzo added and RBI double.  Palomar jumped ahead early scoring 5 runs in the top of the first inning off starting pitcher Paige Overfield.  MSJC rallied back with a run in the bottom of the second and two in the bottom of the third, but the Comets seemed to answer each time finally putting the game out of reach with a 4 run top of the 5th.

Overfield finished the day going 2 1/3 innings allowing 8 runs, just three of them earned, before giving way to Noehly Alvarez who went the final 3 2/3 innings.

The Lady Eagles are now 0-5 on the season.  MSJC returns to action on Friday when they travel to Grossmont for a doubleheader.  The Lady Eagles next home games will be Saturday February 23rd when they host Santa Monica in a pair of games starting at noon.
