MSJC Wins Two of Three Over the Weekend
The MSJC softball team lost 2-0 on Friday at Antelope Valley in a battle of unbeaten teams in the Foothill Conference, but bounced back to win two non-conference games on Saturday.
In Friday's game Lynsie Caldwell was strong in the circle allowing just one earned run, but the offense couldn't push a run across as the Lady Eagles fell to the Marauders 2-0. Angel Felipe had 2 of MSJC's 5 hits in the game. AVC was able to pick up single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings for the win. The loss was MSJC's first in conference and dropped their record to 4-1 while AVC improved to 5-0.
The Lady Eagles bounced back on Saturday to defeat both San Diego City and Citrus. In the San Diego City game, Samantha Martinez picked up the pitching victory while Caldwell got the save. Sam Felipe knocked in both of MSJC's runs in the top of the third inning. In the second game Saturday the Lady Eagles made a huge comeback to defeat Citrus 7-5. MSJC rallied for six runs in the top of the sixth for the victory. After falling behind 5-1 the Lady Eagles sent 11 hitters to the plate in the sixth and collected 7 of their 10 hits in the inning. Angel Felipe got both her hits for the game in the same inning. Rodriguez drove in three runs while Sam Felipe, Caldwell, Stephanie Cardenas, and Jen Strawbridge all drove in one. Caldwell picked up the pitching victory in relief.
The Lady Eagles are now 10-11 on the season and are back in action today as they travel to Ventura to take on the Pirates as well as Moorpark College.
