The MSJC softball team will have it's final two home games of the season this week in Menifee, and for D.J. Morones it has been an outstanding year at the plate.
Morones enters this week's games with a team high batting average of .479. The freshman first baseman from Lakeside High in Elsinore also leads the team with 22 runs driven in so far this season. Morones is chasing the single season school record for batting average set by Alex Baltas in 2010. That year Baltas hit .532, and if Morones stays at her current pace it would be the second best average for a season in Lady Eagle history.
Morones is currently third in the Foothill Conference in hitting and in the top 15 in the state. She has been the centerpiece of the Lady Eagles offense this year leading the team in extra base hits with 11, including; 6 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 homeruns. She highlighted her season back on February 23rd when she drove in 9 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Santa Monica College.
The Lady Eagles are currently 6-19-1 on the season and 2-8 in Foothill Conference action. This week MSJC hosts Victor Valley on Wednesday and College of the Desert on Friday with both games being held at Wheat Field in Menifee. Game time on both days is 3 pm. The Lady Eagles wrap up their season the following week with a pair of conference road games and a doubleheader in San Diego.
