Softball Team Loses Heartbreaker in Extra Innings
The MSJC softball team lost a tough one Wednesday afternoon as they fell to visiting College of the Desert 12-11 in nine innings in Menifee.
The Lady Eagles fell behind early 3-0 before rallying for six runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-3 advantage. Desert would score 2 in the third and 3 in the fourth to reclaim the lead at 8-6, but MSJC would again rally with a big inning scoring 4 in the bottom of the sixth to go up 10-8. Desert staged a 2 out rally in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 10 and send it into extra innings.
Neither team was able to score in the 8th inning, before Desert scored twice in the top of the ninth. This time the Lady Eagles rally came up short as they scored just one in the bottom of the ninth to lose 12-11. Pitcher Aleena Bahling had a big offensive game for MSJC going 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and a homerun. Asia Thomas, Kristy Connor, and Valerie Peralta each had an RBI for the Lady Eagles.
MSJC, now 13-22 overall and 7-6 in Foothill Conference games, will play their final game of the season Friday in Victorville when they take on Victor Valley College at 3 pm. Desert improved to 32-5 on the season and 11-2 in Conference play.
