The MSJC volleyball team earned their second straight sweep on Wednesday night as they defeated visiting Cuyumaca in a PCAC contest.
The Lady Eagles got off to a fast start in the first set, and behind four kills by Taylor Kushner and 10 assists from Alyssia Theis won the opener 25-13. In the second set Cuyumaca scored the first point of the set, but then MSJC dominated the rest of the way easily winning the second 25-6. In the second set MSJC made just one hitting error and were led by 4 kills from Jessica Santos. The third set was more of the same as the Lady Eagles finished off the sweep with a 25-15 win. Kushner had 5 kills in the set while Kriston Hilkey added 4.
MSJC finished the night with 13 aces as a team led by Kassie Ray who had 8. "Everyone played solid tonight," said MSJC Head Coach Kevin Pratte, "but Kassie really was impressive from the service line, she is one of our hardest workers and I'm glad to see her hard work is paying off." Kushner ended the match leading a very balanced offensive attack with 12 kills, Hilkey and Santos both finished with 7 and Alyssa Carillo had 5 in the victory. Theis finished the night with 28 assists and a team high 11 digs.
The win improved MSJC to 10-6 overall and 2-4 in PCAC action. The Lady Eagles will travel to Imperial Valley for a 5 pm match on Friday night.
Kassie Ray had 8 of MSJC's 13 service aces on Wednesday night as the Lady Eagles swept Pacific Coast Athletic Conference foe Cuyumaca to win their second straight match.
