MSJC Volleyball Struggles at SD City Tournament
The MSJC volleyball team lost three times on Saturday at the San Diego City College Tournament. The tournament featured matches that were best out of three sets rather than the conventional best of 5 format.
The Lady Eagles opened the day against South Mountain College of Arizona and were defeated 2-0 by the squad form just outside Phoenix. MSJC then dropped a 2-0 decision to Foothill Conference rival Chaffey. The Lady Eagles final match of the day was a 2-0 loss to Cuyamaca College.
The Lady Eagles were led on the day by Leslie Jenkins who had 28 kills, 14 digs, and 2 blocks. Sarah Phelps the team's starting libero, had to move to outside hitter due to MSJC missing a pair of starters at that position and she responded with a good day for MSJC. Phelps had 18 kills, 25 digs, 4 aces, and 2 blocks. Setter Afton McClelland had 62 assists in the tournament.
MSJC will be at home twice this week as they host Cuyumaca on Wednesday in their final non conference match of the season and will entertain San Bernardino Valley on Friday in the Foothill Conference opener. Wednesday's match is set for 6 pm and Friday's match starts at 5:30.
