MSJC Volleyball Team Goes 4-2 at Tournament
The MSJC women's volleyball team won their pool on the way to finishing fourth at the Cuyamaca Tournament on Saturday.
In pool play the Lady Eagles went undefeated beating Cuyamaca, and Mesa (AZ) 2-0, and downing Santa Monica 2-1. In the play-off bracket MSJC won their quarterfinal match 2-1 over Pima (AZ). In that match the Lady Eagles lost game 1 24-26, before storming back to win game 2 easily 25-10, and then winning game 3 16-14. MSJC finally lost in their fifth match of the day 24-26 and 23-25 to Riverside. In a one game third place match the Lady Eagles fell to South Mountain (AZ) 13-25. For the day MSJC finished with four wins and two losses.
Freshman setter Sarah Teegarden had an outstanding day collecting 88 assists, 36 digs, and 10 kills on her way to being named to the all tournament team. Sophomore outside hitter, Tawnee Roth was also solid in the tournament picking up 47 kills and 8 aces in the six matches. Virginia Pena had a balanced day with 39 digs and 22 kills, while libero Erin Elam contributed with 40 digs. Audrey Fooks (32) and Autum Jenkins (30) combined for 62 blocks in Saturday's action. Kellie Diekiewiet also played well with 31 kills and 15 assists.
MSJC who now stands at 5-3 on the season is back in action tonight (Sep. 8) when they host Riverside in their home opener. The match begins at 5 pm.
