Volleyball Team Drops Match to Top Ranked Grossmont
The MSJC women's volleyball team opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play on Friday and fell to the state's top ranked team Grossmont in four sets.
The Lady Eagles fell behind early in the first set, but rallied to tie the score at 10-10, before dropping the opener 25-18. A slow start in set two doomed MSJC as they fell behind and couldn't recover losing 25-14. Sharper passing and strong offense from Alyssa Carillo, Taylor Kushner, and Jessica Santos led the Lady Eagles to a third set win 25-21. The Griffons bounced back to take a very competitive fourth set 25-23 to take away the victory.
Kushner led the offensive effort for the Lady Eagles with 18 kills, followed by Carillo with 8 and Santos with 7. Kassie Ray had 4 service aces for MSJC and Courtney Flowers had a team high 16 digs. MSJC is now 8-3 and 0-1 in conference play. The Lady Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they travel to San Diego City for a 5 pm match.
Kassie Ray had 4 aces Friday at #1 Grossmont, but it wasn't quite enough as the MSJC volleyball team lost on the road in 4 sets.
