The MSJC volleyball team traveled to Chula Vista on Wednesday night and came away with an exciting 5 set win over Southwestern College in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference match.
The Lady Eagles fell behind early losing the first set 20-25, but came back strong in the second as they easily defeated the Jaguars 25-9 to even the match. In the back and forth battle Southwestern rallied to take the third 21-25 and again MSJC answered by taking the fourth 25-18 setting up the winner take all fifth set.
The fifth set was close throughout, but the Lady Eagles prevailed in the end winning 17-15 for their 13th victory of the season. Taylor Kushner had a huge night for MSJC with a match high 31 kills to go along with 14 digs. Kriston Hilkey (13), Jessica Santos (12), and Alyssa Carillo (10) all reached double figures in kills for the Lady Eagles in the victory. Courtney Flowers had a match high 41 digs and setter Alyssia Theis had 56 assists.
The Lady Eagles, who were coming off a three set loss last Friday to San Diego Mesa, improved to 13-8 on the season and 5-7 in PCAC competition. MSJC has two regular season matches remaining. Friday the Lady Eagles will travel to Cuyumaca for a 5 pm match and they finish the season next Wednesday November 13th when they host Imperial Valley also at 5 pm.
Courtney Flowers had a match high 41 digs on Wednesday as the MSJC volleyball team beat Southwestern in 5 sets in Chula Vista. The Lady Eagles have two matches remaining in their season including one at home on November 13th at 5 pm.
