Lady Eagle Hoop Season Ends with 81-77 Loss

The MSJC women's basketball team fell in a close game Friday night at College of the Canyons 81-77, ending the season for the Lady Eagles in the Southern California Regional semi-finals.

In a back and forth contest that had 7 lead changes and 9 ties MSJC came up just short after leading by as much as 6 in the second half. The contest was close for the entire 40 minutes as the Cougars biggest lead came in the first half and only reached 8 points. By the time the halftime horn sounded Canyons led 41-38. MSJC jumped out of the gates in the second half going on an 8-0 run to take the lead. The Lady Eagles last lead of the game came at the 2:03 mark before they were outscored 9-4 down the stretch.

Danielle Smith had a huge night offensively for the Lady Eagles scoring 30 points and dishing out 7 assists, while Brandie McCann was big as well adding 19. Jasmyn Russell contributed with 7 points and Julia Oberst had 6 points off the bench.

The loss ended MSJC's season at 23-9 while Canyons improved to 24-8. The 23 win total is the second highest in school history for the Lady Eagles. This also concludes the third straight 20 plus win season for the program and fourth winning season in a row for MSJC.
