Lady Eagles Claim Conference Title
The MSJC women's basketball team nearly let a 10 point second half lead slip away, but were able to hang on to defeat Chaffey Friday night 61-58 to claim a share of the Foothill Conference championship.
The Lady Eagles finished the regular season with a 23-5 overall mark and a 12-2 record in conference action. San Bernardino Valley and Antelope Valley also finished with 12-2 marks in conference. The conference title for MSJC is just the second in school history, the previous title came in 2007.
Friday it was Tiffany Smith who led the way offensively with 28 points, she also grabbed 14 rebounds. Autumn Spikes and Kyna Lewis both had 8 points and Danielle Smith passed out 8 assists. After a poor shooting first half the Lady Eagles trailed by 5 at the half 32-27. A quick start to the second half allowed MSJC to build a 10 point lead before Chaffey came storming back. Tiffany Smith made 2 free throws with 27 seconds left and Danielle Smith added one more with 12 seconds remaining for the win.
The Lady Eagles will find out their pairings for the Southern California Regional play-offs on Monday.
