Lady Eagles Clinch Share of Conference Title
The MSJC women's basketball team defeated Chaffey for the third time this season to clinch at least a share of the Foothill Conference title Wednesday winning in Rancho Cucamonga 76-69.
The Lady Eagles fell behind early and got down by as much as 12 late in the first half, before a late push closed the gap to 32-30 at the break. In the second half Tina Fantroy took over the game for MSJC scoring 36 of her school record 50 points in the second half as the Lady Eagles surged to the lead with just over 8 minutes to play. Down the stretch the Lady Eagles held off Chaffey with solid defense and some key rebounds from Faith Fantroy and Kerah Natividad.
Tina Fantroy added 14 rebounds to go along with her 50 points. Faith Fantroy dished out 9 assists and grabbed 6 rebounds while Natividad finished the game with 10 rebounds. Gina Fernandez scored 7 points and Sarai Ware added 4, but their bigger contribution was on the defensive end of the floor as MSJC held Chaffey to 10 points over the final 8 minutes of the game.
The win improved MSJC's overall record to 25-2 and their Foothill Conference mark to 12-1. The Lady Eagles have a one game lead over San Bernardino Valley in the conference standings with one game left to play. Chaffey fell to 19-8 and 10-3. The Lady Eagles final regular season game is Saturday at Antelope Valley.
