The MSJC women's basketball team shook off a slow start on Friday night as they defeated Cuseta College 72-57 to advance to the Southern California Regional semi-finals on Wednesday.
The Lady Eagles struggled with turnovers early in the game and fell behind by as much as 10 midway through the first half, before rallying to take a 31-26 lead at the half. MSJC never relinquished the lead in the second as they built the lead to as much as 18 before the Cougars cut it back down to 8 with just over 5 minutes remaining. The Lady Eagles made some solid plays down the stretch and controlled the boards as they pulled away for the victory.
Tina Fantroy led the MSJC offense with 27 points, while Kerah Natividad added 22 points and a game high 15 rebounds. Faith Fantroy contributed offensively with 10 assists while Destiny Melton pulled down 13 rebounds.
The victory improved the Lady Eagles record to 27-2 on the season while the Cougars finished their year at 19-11. MSJC will host Irvine Valley College on Wednesday night at 7 pm in the Regional Semi-Final game. Irvine beat Pasadena in a second round game Saturday night.
