Lady Eagles Overcome Turnovers; Beat Fresno
The MSJC women's basketball team struggled with turnovers in the first half Thursday night, but were able to overcome it and defeat Fresno City College 80-76 in the first round of the Antelope Valley College Holiday Tournament.
The Lady Eagles made up for their high turnover count by shooting the ball very well throughout the game finishing the night 34 for 65. After a frantically paced back and forth first half the teams were tied at 38-38. In the second half MSJC jumped out to a quick four point lead before Fresno went on a run that would eventually give them a 10 point lead with 13 minutes to play in the game. The Lady Eagles overcame that lead down the stretch forcing some turnovers of their own and finally took the lead for good with just under two minutes to play.
Tina Fantroy led four Lady Eagles in double figures with 23 points on 10 for 12 shooting while Diona Andrews came off the bench to add 13. Nicholle Reyna added 12 points and Ashley Jenkins had a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jasmine Jones sparked MSJC with a game high 6 assists in the victory.
The win improved the Lady Eagles to 10-1 on the season. MSJC entered the game ranked 10th in the state while Fresno came in ranked 11th. MSJC will take on Fullerton tonight at 5 pm in the semi-finals.
Diona Andrews came off the bench for MSJC on Thursday to score 13 points in an 80-76 victory over Fresno City College. The Lady Eagles play tonight in the semi-finals of the AVC HolidayTournament against Fullerton.
