Lady Eagles Take Third at AVC Tournament

 

The Mt. San Jacinto women's basketball team improved their record to 7-4 on the season with a pair of victories this week at the Antelope Valley College tournament.

The Lady Eagles won a first round game Thursday 63-53 over Santa Barbara City College behind 17 points and 17 rebounds from Thalia Benjamin. In the semi-finals on Friday the Lady Eagles took on the state's top ranked team the Fresno City Rams. Despite 26 points and 13 rebounds from Michelle Simmons MSJC fell 74-62. In the third place game on Saturday MSJC bounced back and defeated the hosts from Antelope Valley 49-39. Jasmine Nyx led the scoring attack for the Lady Eagles with 13 points. Simmons was named to the all tournament team.

MSJC currently ranked #8 in So. Cal and 16th in the state will travel to Costa Mesa on Wednesday for a 7 pm game with 2nd ranked Orange Coast College in a rematch of a game played at the Desert Thanksgiving Classic last month. In the first meeting the Pirates downed the Lady Eagles by 10.
