The MSJC women's basketball team won three straight games over the weekend to bring home the championship of the Panther Pride Tournament at Chaffey College.
The Lady Eagles started the tournament Friday with a convincing 82-53 victory over Imperial Valley College. in that game Ashley Jenkins led the MSJC offense with 21 points while Tina Fantroy added 18 and Jasmine Jones 13. Marina Villarreal came off the bench to add 7 in the victory.
Saturday's semi-final game was a defensive struggle as the Lady Eagles defeated Irvine Valley 47-41 in a hard fought game. Both teams struggled to score in the first half and the teams went to the locker room with MSJC on top just 16-12 at the half. The Lady Eagles were able to maintain the lead in the second half holding on for the victory. Diona Andrews led MSJC with 13 points in the game while Aishah Pullum added 8 points and 10 rebounds, and Faith Fantroy had 9 points and 6 assists.
In Sunday afternoon's championship game the Lady Eagles started fast and never looked back as they handed Long Beach City College their first loss of the year 65-39. Tina Fantroy had 20 points in the win while Jones added 16 including 14 in the first half to help push MSJC to a 36-13 lead at the break. Jenkins finished the game with 9 points and 8 rebounds while Faith Fantroy added 8 points and 7 assists.
For their efforts on the weekend Faith Fantroy and Jenkins were named to the All Tournament Team while Tina Fantroy brought home tournament MVP honors.
The Lady Eagles are now 8-1 on the season and will play a Foothill Conference game Friday when they travel to Ridgecrest to take on Cerro Coso College at 6 pm.
