MSJC women's basketball player Cora Lopez was named the 2014 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year this week when the All PCAC team was announced.
Lopez, a sophomore from Hemet High School, led the Lady Eagles to the conference championship in their first season as a member of the PCAC. Lopez was a member of last year's team that captured the Foothill Conference championship and reached the CCCAA State Finals. This season Lopez led MSJC both in scoring and rebounding averaging 12.7 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Lopez was also named second team All State as the Lady Eagles finished the season 23-6.
Freshmen Johnette Brown and Tamara Herring were also honored by being named First Team All Conference. Brown, from 29 Palms High School, finished the season averaging 10.5 points and 7.4 rebounds a game. Herring from Citrus Hill High School in Perris also ended the regular season with a 10.5 points per game scoring average, she also led the team in three point shooting percentage at 31%. Sophomore Sarai Ware, from Hemet West Valley was named Honorable Mention All Conference. Chris Mozga was rewarded for his team's solid play during the season by being named the PCAC Coach of the Year.
The Lady Eagles start CCCAA State play-off competition on Saturday night when they travel to Long Beach City for a 7 pm game.
Cora Lopez of the MSJC women's basketball team was named PCAC MVP and 2nd Team All State it was announced this week. The sophomore from Hemet High helped the Lady Eagles to a PCAC title and a trip to the CCCAA state play-offs averaging 12.7 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.
