MSJC Falls in Close One at Antelope Valley
Jasmyn Russell's three point shot went half way down before falling out of the basket at the buzzer Saturday night as the Lady Eagles lost to AVC 59-56.
In a game that was close all night MSJC went into the locker room down 23-21. With one minute left in the game the Lady Eagles took a one point lead on a Danielle Smith's 15 foot jumper to make the score 56-55. The MSJC defense forced a turnover with :35 to play, but then committed a turnover of their own on the ensuing in bounds play. AVC then got a driving basket from Florida Siosi to take the lead with 28 seconds to play. MSJC couldn't score and was forced to foul setting up Russell's last second shot.
Smith led the MSJC offense with 23 points while Russell added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Nicole Villalobos added 10 points and 5 rebounds and Julia Oberst pulled down 8 boards. AVC came into the game ranked #9 in the state while the Lady Eagles were 13th.
MSJC is right back in action against another ranked opponent on Wednesday when the host sixth ranked Rio Hondo College at 5 pm. All the action can be heard on the Eagle Radio Network at msjc.edu or on AM 1620.
