The MSJC women's basketball team won three games this weekend on their way to the championship at the Barstow College Tournament.
Friday the Lady Eagles kicked off the tourney with a 92-60 win over Porterville College. Tina Fantroy led the way with a triple double scoring 29 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 11 assists. Destiny Melton added 22 points and 14 rebounds while Kerah Natividad had 13 points in the win.
Saturday the Lady Eagles defeated Los Angeles Pierce College 83-64 in the semi-finals with a balanced scoring attack the saw four MSJC players reach double figures. Fantroy again was high scorer with 20 points while Natividad added 18 and 9 rebounds. Melton just missed her second double double with 14 points and 9 boards. Gina Fernandez had 11 points for the Lady Eagles.
Sunday's championship game was a fast paced exciting game that saw the Lady Eagles edge Mission College of Santa Clara 91-89. Fantroy scored the winning basket on a drive to the rim with 18 seconds remaining. Fantroy finished the game with 27 points and 14 rebounds while Melton had a huge game adding 21 points and 21 rebounds. Natividad and Fernandez also reached double figures again with 16 and 14 points respectively.
MSJC set a school record with 36 offensive rebounds in the game.
Natividad was named the MVP of the tournament while Melton was named to the All Tournament Team. The Lady Eagles are now 5-0 on the season and will return to action on November 30th when they begin play in the Chaffey Tournament against Glendale College.
Kerah Natividad was named the Most Valuable Player at the Barstow Tournament this past weekend as she helped the MSJC women's basketball team to the championship. The Lady Eagles are now 5-0 on the season.
