The MSJC women's basketball team made a strong push midway through the first half Wednesday night to take control of a Foothill Conference game against Chaffey on their way to an 86-67 victory.
The Lady Eagles put together a 12-2 run over a four minute span in the first half to push their lead to 31-13 and gain control of the game that featured two team's rated in the top 10 in the state. MSJC would end the first half with a commanding 49-26 lead.
Chaffey the state's 9th ranked team would make a game of it though in the second half as their offense came to life against the 7th ranked Lady Eagles. The Panthers would get the game as close as 8 points in the second half, before Tina Fantroy helped MSJC put it away for good with 2 three point baskets with just over 7 minutes to play. From that point on the Lady Eagles were able to maintain a double digit lead.
Fantroy ended the night leading four MSJC players in double figures with 27. Gina Fernandez added 14 points while Kerah Natividad and Sarai Ware both had 12 in the victory. Fantroy also added 8 points and 8 rebounds for the Lady Eagles who were playing without starting point guard Faith Fantroy due to an ankle injury. Natividad pulled in a game high 14 rebounds.
The win improved MSJC's overall record to 16-2, they are 3-1 in Foothill Conference play. Chaffey fell to 14-6 and 5-1. The Lady Eagles will be back in action Saturday when they host Antelope Valley at 1 pm. MSJC will also be at home on Monday January 28th when they host Cerro Coso at 5 pm in a game that is rescheduled from January 5th.
