MSJC Women Hold Off San Diego City for PCAC Win
The MSJC women's basketball team was able to push their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference record to 3-0 Wednesday night as they outlasted San Diego City College 78-71 in San Diego.
The Lady Eagles used a balanced scoring attack to hold off a tough Knights team who wouldn't go away despite being behind most of the game. MSJC took a halftime lead of 38-36, but San Diego City started the second half strong taking their biggest lead of five points with just over 16 minutes remaining in the game. The Lady Eagles found their footing down the stretch and were able to come away with the win getting some key baskets from Erin Stanford and some late foul shooting from Tamara Herring.
Cora Lopez led the attack for the Lady Eagles with 16 points and 12 rebounds it was Lopez's fourth double double in the last five games. Stanford finished the night with 14 points and Herring added 13. Sarai Ware and DeShea Wilkes also made some big plays down the stretch to help MSJC secure the victory. Ware ended the game with 9 points while Wilkes had 6 points and 6 rebounds to go along with 2 late steals.
The Lady Eagles are now 14-4 overall and 3-0 in PCAC play. MSJC returns to action on Friday when they host Grossmont at 5 pm. Friday's game is part of a doubleheader with the MSJC men, with the men's game tipping off at 7.
Erin Stanford had 14 points on Wednesday night including 5 of the Lady Eagles final 9 points to help the MSJC women's basketball team to a 78-71 win at San Diego City.
