MSJC Women Lose at the Buzzer

The MSJC women's basketball team lost to fourth ranked Palomar Friday night as the Comets hit a shot at the buzzer for the 64-62 victory.

In a game the Lady Eagles controlled most of the way, poor free throw shooting doomed MSJC down the stretch. The Lady Eagles held a six point lead at halftime and pushed the lead to as much as 13 midway through the second half against the host Comets. With the score tied at 62 Palomar's Jamie Wilkerson drove to the basket, but her shot was blocked by Autum Jenkins for MSJC on the ensuing scramble for the ball MSJC knocked it right into the hands of Palomar's Katie Girten who made a six foot jumper at the buzzer.

Danielle Smith led the way for the Lady Eagles scoring 24 points grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing out 8 assists in the losing effort. Brandi McCann got MSJC out to the early lead scoring all 14 of her points in the first half. Jenkins finished the night with 9 points and 9 rebounds while Nicole Villalobos added 8 points and 7 boards.

The loss drops MSJC to 8-2 on the season, while Palomar improved to 10-2. Currently the Lady Eagles are ranked #6 in Southern California and #12 in the state. The Comets came into the game ranked third in So. Cal and fourth in the state. MSJC is back in action Tuesday December 16th when they host San Diego City College at 5 pm.
