MSJC Women Stuggle to 1-2 Mark at Antelope Tourney
The MSJC women's basketball team struggled shooting the basketball this weekend as they won just one of three games at the Antelope Valley Holiday Tournament.
The Lady Eagles got off to a good start on Friday defeating L.A. Valley 64-54. Brandi McCann led the way offensively scoring 15 points while Danielle Smith added 13 and Rayven Lewis 11. Nicole Villalobos had 10 points and 9 rebounds in the victory.
Saturday MSJC lost in dramatic fashion to Fullerton College in overtime 49-45. The Lady Eagles led for most of the game, but couldn't put the Hornets away. At the end of regulation with the Lady Eagles up by three, Danielle Ekno of Fullerton launched a 30 foot shot off an offensive rebound that swished through as the buzzer sounded to send the game into overtime. MSJC shot just 21-78 from the field in the loss including 1-18 from the three point line. Smith was the only Lady Eagle to reach double figures with 20.
In Sunday's third place game the Lady Eagles once again had a hard time making shots as they fell to #7 ranked Fresno City 64-49. MSJC shot just 19 of 71 in that contest. Despite the poor shooting the Lady Eagles still went into halftime with a 28-22 lead, but couldn't hold on as Fresno pulled away late in the game. McCann once again led the way on offense with 19 points while Smith added 12.
The Lady Eagles now stand at 10-4 on the season. MSJC returns to action at the Grossmont Tournament on December 27th when they take on Citrus College. Game time is 1 pm.
Brandi McCann had a strong tournament despite the Lady Eagles losing two of three in Lancaster.
