The MSJC women's basketball team followed up their win over 11th ranked Fresno City College with a disappointing loss to 17th ranked Fullerton on Friday, before rebounding to beat Cypress on Saturday in the third place game of the Antelope Valley College Holiday Tournament in Lancaster.
The Lady Eagles trailed by 3 at halftime on Friday against Fullerton College, but came out and quickly regained the lead in the second half scoring the first 6 points of the half. From there the game went back and forth until the six minute mark when the Hornets made a run to push the lead to 9. MSJC made some adjustments in their defense and pulled to within 3 with two minutes to go, but could not score down the stretch losing for just the second time this season 76-67. Jasmine Jones had a big offensive night for the Lady Eagles scoring a game high 25 points which included 5 3 point baskets. Ashley Jenkins added 13 points and Tina Fantroy had 10 despite playing limited minutes due to foul trouble.
The Lady Eagles rebounded on Saturday as they defeated Cypress College 68-63 in the tournament's third place game. Jones again led the way offensively with 19 points while Tina Fantroy, Faith Fantroy, and Aishah Pullum all had 9. Jones was named to the All Tournament Team for MSJC.
The Lady Eagles now stand at 11-2 on the season and have a week off before returning to action in the Grossmont Tournament December 28th through the 30th. MSJC will open play in that tournament with a 1 pm game on the 28th against Citrus College.
Sophomore Jasmine Jones scored 52 points in three games this weekend to help MSJC to a third place finish in the Antelope Valley Holiday Tournament. For her efforts Jones was named to the All Tournament Team.
