MSJC Women Win 3 of 4 Last Week

The MSJC women's basketball team won three of four games last week to improve their record to 4-1 on the season.

Wednesday (Nov. 21st) the Lady Eagles defeated #5 ranked Santa Ana College 83-79 in overtime. Sophomore Michelle Simmons led the way with a triple double, recording 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. Thalia Benjamin chipped in with 17 points and Jennifer Marquez added 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Over the weekend the Lady Eagles won 2 of 3 at the College of the Desert Thanksgiving Classic taking home third place. On Friday MSJC defeated San Diego Mesa College 56-47 behind Simmons second straight triple double. She scored 10 points grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out 11 assists. Saturday the Lady Eagles took on Southern California's number one ranked Orange Coast College and fell 73-61. MSJC was within 3 points with 5 minutes to play, but the Pirates made big shots down the stretch for the victory. In Sunday's third place game MSJC beat College of the Desert 72-46. The Lady Eagles got huge contributions off the bench from Kami Speir 14 points and Julia Oberst 12 points. For her consistent play over the weekend Jasmine Nyx was named to the all tournament team averaging 12 points throughout the tourney.

The Lady Eagles travel to Pasadena College Wednesday for their third game in a week against a top five ranked opponent, game time is 7 pm.  MSJC returns home next Wednesday Dec. 5th when they host Imperial Valley College at 5 pm.
