Second-Half-Surge Earns Lady Eagles Road Win
The MSJC women's basketball team overcame a poor first half on Wednesday night as they picked up a road win at Mira Costa 53-31 to stay in a first place tie in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
The Lady Eagles shot just 3 of 25 in the first half from the field and trailed at the halftime break 17-16. MSJC was able to regroup in the locker room and came out in the second half and out scored Mira Costa 33 to 4 in the first 13 minutes of the half to pull away for the victory. The Lady Eagles held Mira Costa to just 14 points in the second half.
MSJC used a balanced scoring attack led by Johnette Brown's 10 points, she also pulled down 9 rebounds. Cora Lopez came off the bench for the first time this season and scored 9 points and had a game high 11 boards. Kenyetta Fugate took advantage of just her second start of the year scoring 7 points while grabbing 6 rebounds. Erin Stanford had a team high 4 assists in the win while Brittany Gatson and Sarai Ware shut down Mira Costa's top two scorers holding them to a combined 13 points the night.
The win improved the Lady Eagles overall record on the season to 15-5 while they moved to 4-1 in PCAC paly to stay in a first place tie with Palomar and Southwestern. MSJC will be back in action on Friday night when they host San Diego Mesa at 5 pm.
Kenyetta Fugate scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds on Wednesday night to help the MSJC women's basketball team win at Mira Costa 53-31, The Lady Eagles are now 15-5 overall and 4-1 in the PCAC.
