The MSJC women's basketball team defeated the state's #1 ranked team San Bernardino Valley on Saturday afternoon in dramatic fashion as they used a late basket to win 70-68.
Danielle Reed scored the winning basket for the Lady Eagles with just two seconds remaining and then MSJC survived a last second shot attempt by the Wolverines that would have sent the game to overtime.
San Bernardino finished the first half with a strong run to put them up 8 at the half with the score 40-32. MSJC however, came out strong in the second half and built the lead to as much as ten before the game stayed close the final 7 minutes. Three big second half three pointers by Terri Todecheene and Kaylee Moreno allowed MSJC never to fall behind during the final stretch, but a SBVC three pointer with 9 seconds left finally tied the game. The Lady Eagles pushed the ball down the floor and called time out with 5 seconds remaining which set the stage for Reed's final basket.
Danielle Cooper led the MSJC offense on the day with 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds, while Reed finished the day with 16 points and 9 assists. Todecheene also hit double digits in scoring with 14, while Ashley Jenkins just missed a double double with 9 points and 9 rebounds.
The win improved MSJC's overall record to 17-7 and they are 7-2 in Foothill Conference play while SBVC fell to 20-2 overall and 7-1 in conference. The Lady Eagles will be back in action Saturday February 5th when they host Barstow College at 1 pm.
