Women's Basketball off to Tough Start
The MSJC women's basketball team kicked off the season this past weekend going 1-2 at the Holiday Inn Tournament in Barstow.
The Lady Eagles started the year with an 80-71 victory over Citrus College on Thursday as Terri Todecheene led the offense with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Danielle Cooper added 10 points and 15 rebounds. On Friday in the semi-finals the MSJC offense was clicking, but they could not come up with big defensive stops as they fell to LA Pierce College 100-98. Cooper was the Lady Eagles high scorer on Friday as she poured in 33 points to go along with 15 rebounds. Kaylee Moreno added 30 points in the loss, while Todecheene had her second straight double double with 13 points and 10 boards.
In Saturday's third place game MSJC lost in overtime to Laney College 86-80. Jasmine Jones hit a three pointer for the Lady Eagles as time expired in regulation to send the game into overtime tied at 79. In the overtime session MSJC scored first on a free throw by Danielle Reed, but that would be all the points they could muster in the extra period. Cooper led 5 MSJC players in double figures on the afternoon with 23. Jones added 15, Reed 14, and Todecheene and Moreno had 10 a piece.
The Lady Eagles are back in action this Friday when they travel to the Orange Coast Thanksgiving Classic in Costa Mesa. MSJC starts the tournament with a 2 pm game against Santa Ana College.
