Women's Hoop Team Wins 2 of 3 at Santa Ana
The MSJC women's basketball team won two of three games over the Thanksgiving weekend to take home the consolation championship of the Santa Ana Tournament.
The Lady Eagles struggled offensively on Friday falling to Orange Coast 64-60, shooting just 34% from the field in the game. Tina Fantroy had 13 points in the loss while Jasmine Jones and Ashley Jenkins both had 12, Jenkins also pulled in a game high 15 rebounds.
MSJC bounced back on Saturday to defeat Merced College 71-52. Three Lady Eagles scored in double figures led by Fantroy's 22, Jenkins with 16, and Jones had 14. Jenkins had her second straight double double as she also pulled in 12 rebounds. Aishah Pullum added 9 points and Nicholle Reyna had 8 rebounds.
The Lady Eagles defeated L.A. Valley on Sunday 55-49 to win the consolation championship. Fantroy had 20 points and Jones 19 in the victory. On Sunday MSJC had to fight back from a slow start to take an 8 point lead at halftime that they never relinquished down the stretch. Fantroy was named to the All Tournament Team for her efforts over the weekend.
MSJC is now 5-1 on the season and will be back in action at the Chaffey Tournament beginning December 2nd. The Lady Eagles open the tournament at 1 pm Friday against Imperial Valley College.
