Women Win Two; Fall in Title Game at Grossmont
The MSJC women's basketball team won two games before falling in the Championship game of the Grossmont Holiday Tournament last week.
The Lady Eagles started the tourney with a 76-61 victory over Santa Barbara City College on Tuesday behind a balanced scoring attack. MSJC had five players reach double figures led by Danielle Cooper's 18 points. Terri Todecheene added 14, Danielle Reed 13, Kaylee Moreno 11 and Ashley Jenkins 10 in the victory.
In the semi-finals on Wednesday MSJC defeated the host team Grossmont by a score of 71-55. Todecheene led the offense with 20 points while Cooper had a big game with 17 points and 18 rebounds. The Lady Eagles used a solid second half to win the game after leading by just two at the break.
In Thursday's championship game the Lady Eagles gave away an 11 point halftime lead as they lost to Cypress 70-56. MSJC did not take care of the ball well on their way to a season high 32 turnovers. Todecheene reached double figures for the third straight day with 12 points while Jasmine Jones added 11. Ashley Jenkins earned all tournament team honors for her work in the tournament.
The Lady Eagles now stand at 11-5 on the season as they prepare to enter Foothill Conference play. MSJC is back in action at San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday when they take on the 14-1 Wolverines at 5:30.
