The Lady Eagles are beginning to return to their target goals from earlier this season and it could not have come at a better time as they win Foothill Conference Match #4 by 5 strokes (331-336) over Mt. San Antonio College on the home course of the Mounties, Chino Creek at El Prado Golf Course in Chino Hills. College of the Desert, Palomar College, and Long Beach City College rounded out the rest of the field. The victory gives MSJC a first place margin of 4 over Mt. San Antonio College as they move to 16-0 in the Foothill Conference (21-1 overall).
Freshman and International Student Ya-Ting Yang also returned to her winning ways as she shot a two over par 74 and tied for medalist honors with Rachel Kim of Mt. San Antonio College. Yang blazed through the front nine at 1 under par 35 and followed with a 39 on the back side consisting of 5 birdies, 8 pars, 4 bogeys, and a double bogey where she hit in the water.
Freshman Connie Chen also returned to her level of play from earlier in the season, especially on the putting greens, as she carded a 76 to finish in 3rd place in the 16 women field. Chen's round of 38-38 consisted of 2 birdies, 11 pars, and 5 bogeys.
Sophomore and Captain Katelyn Hardy continues to draw on the experiences she learned from during her All-Conference season last year to find ways to get it done on the course as she posted an 84 over the 5,584 yard track in 105+ degree temperatures joining forces with a little humidity and a whole lot of pesky bugs. Hardy's game is starting to turn the corner as she looks forward to returning to the level of play she delivered towards the end of last season. Hardy finised 7th.
Freshman Melissa Simpson shot a 97 to finish 11th. Simpson is developing skills similar to Hardy as she is finding ways to get it done on the course even though she is stuggling to find consistency in her power game off the tee and soft touch on the greens that she had demonstrated earlier in the season.
Mt. San Jacinto College has mid-term exams next week, which coincides with the Lady Eagles being out of action until Monday, October 12, 2010 when they return to El Prado Golf Course to play Butterfield in Foothill Conference Match #5 hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. Tee time is 10:00 a.m.
