Golf Team Wins Second Straight Conference Match
Mt. San Jacinto College stumbled, but did not fall as they moved to 8-0 in the Foothill Conference (14-1 overall) with a 357 as they close out the desert and 100+ degree temperatures portion of their schedule with a 357. Mt. San Antonio College was nine strokes back, followed by College of the Desert (COD), Palomar College, and Long Beach City College over the 5,495 yard Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert hosted by COD.
Freshman Ya-Ting Yang continued to lead the Lady Eagles and was medalist for the third tournament in a row with a 79 (42-37), despite having a 10 on the par 5 ninth hole. In addition, Yang had 2 birdies, 11 pars, and 4 bogeys. COD's Krista Fenniak finished three strokes back of Yang for second place.
Freshman Connie Chen shot a 15 over par 87 to finish in 5th place in the 16 women field.
Sophomore and Captain Katelyn Hardy improved 1 stroke from last Wednesday as she carded an 89 to finish in 6th place. Hardy grinded out a 43 on the back nine after a 46 front nine over the lightning fast greens.
Freshman Melissa Simpson likewise improved 1 stroke finishing tied for 10th with a 102.
MSJC heads to cooler temperatures with ocean breezes as Long Beach City College hosts the next conference match on Wednesday, september 22, 2010, at El Dorado GC, in Long Beach. Tee time is 11:00 a.m.
