Lady Eagles Golf Opens Season

The Lady Eagles flew into a hurricane of low scores on the first day of the South Coast Classic at Buenaventura Golf Course, in Ventura, on Sunday, August 28, 2011, as they shot a 355 (88.7 average) and find themselves in 9th place in the 10 team field.   Glendale College leads the tournament with a 305 (76.2 average).  17 women fired rounds under 80 in the field of 58 golfers.  Four teams had average team scores under 320 (80 per player).
 
Freshman and Paloma Valley High School graduate, Valerie Zulueta, opened her collegiate career as the  MSJC medalist for the day with an 88 (43-45) over the 5,216 yard track.  Zulueta's round included one birdie, six pars, and five bogeys.
 
Three other Lady Eagles each carded 89's, led by Sophomore and Co-Captain, Melissa Simpson (42-47), and followed by Freshmen, Vivian Shoemaker (San Jacinto High School) (45-44) and Lexi Moss (Beaver, Utah) (42-47), in the mid-70's temperature conditions with a slight breeze coming in off the Pacific Ocean.  Simpson's round included six pars and six bogeys, while Moss had a birdie in her first competitive collegiate golf experience. 
 
Freshman and Beaumont High School graduate, Dominique Lombardi, rounded out the scoring for Mt. San Jacinto College with a 101 (51-50).
 
The South Coast Classic will conclude with the second and final round on Monday, August 29, 2011, with a shotgun start at 7:30 p.m., at Olivas Park Golf Course.
