The MSJC women's golf team recorded five of the top nine scores on Monday at Santa Rosa Country Club in Palm Desert as they started out Foothill Conference play for the season at 3-0.
The Lady Eagles shot a 326 good enough to finish ahead of Palomar (330), Mt. San Antonio (352), and College of the Desert (381). Freshman Wan Ling (Iris) Chung led the Lady Eagles with a 79 (41-38) she had the chance to score very low Monday, but did have one quadruple bogey to go with 11 pars and 1 birdie. Fellow freshman Dayna Doidge shot an 80 for MSJC which was the 3rd best score on the day at the event.
Sophomore Vivian Shoemaker had a strong back nine as she shot 45-38 to tie for 5th with an 83. Alice Hiluta, a freshman from England, shot 84 for MSJC in her first Foothill Conference competition. Only the top four scores for each team are used in the team scoring totals, but two other Lady Eagles played well Monday as Cheyenne Ackerman shot 85 and Valerie Zulueta shot 94.
The Lady Eagles return to Santa Rosa Country Club on Wednesday for their second Foothill Conference meet. Tee times begin Wednesday at 9 am.
Sophomore Vivian Shoemaker shot an 83 on Monday to help MSJC go undefeated in the Lady Eagles first Foothill Conference match of the season.
