The Lady Eagles, in the words of Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday, inched closer to a Foothill Conference Championship as they won their 8th of 9 conference matches this year and final regular season match posting a 337, which was 42 strokes ahead of second place Mt. San Antonio College, in Foothill Conference Match #9 hosted by Palomar College at San Luis Rey Downs Country Club. College of the Desert, Palomar College, and Long Beach City College rounded out the rest of the field over the par 72, 5,493 yard course. MSJC improved their conference record to 32-4 (37-5 overall).
Freshman Connie Chen led Mt. San Jacinto College and shared medalist honors with Krista Fenniak of College of the Desert as they both shot 79. Chen also moved with one stroke of third place in overall season scoring behind Arica Rodriguez of Mt. San Antonio College. Chen's round consisted of a front nine 39 and a back nine 40 encompassing 11 pars and 7 bogeys.
Freshman and International Student Ya-Ting Yang took 3rd place in the final regular season conference match with an 80 (39-41) under sunny skies, a slight ocean breeze, and a temperature in the high 70's. Yang had 12 pars, 5 bogeys, and 1 triple bogey. Yang is 10 strokes ahead of Fenniak in overall season scoring as she pursues Foothill Conference Most Valuable Player recognition going into the Conference Finals.
Freshman Melissa Simpson shot an 86 (41-45) and earned her best finish in a conference match at 6th in the 15 women field. Simpson also jumped over Jesse Reeske of College of the Desert and Tyler Mahoney of Long Beach City College into 9th place in overall season scoring.
Sophomore and Captain Katelyn Hardy carded a 92 to finish in 7th place in the match. Hardy maintained her 8th place spot and pulled within 1 stroke of Siobhan Nasby of Mt. San Antonio College in overall season scoring.
Mt. San Jacinto College will be hosting the Foothill Conference Finals, as post-regular season play begins, at East Valley Golf Club in Beaumont on Monday and Tuesday, November 1-2, 2010. Admission is free. Tee time is at 11:00 a.m. on Monday and 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday with the top two teams and the top 12 individuals from the Conference Finals qualifying for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional in Solvang.
