Lady Eagles Dominate Soccer Season Opener
The MSJC women's soccer team opened the 2012 season with a 4-1 victory over visiting Grossmont on Tuesday at Menifee.
Despite dominating the ball in the first half the Lady Eagles could only manage to be tied at the half 1-1. Grossmont netted the first goal of the game 10 minutes into the match for the early lead. MSJC responded at the 33 minute mark of the half when Lizeth Mendez drilled a 30 yard shot that squeezed by the Grossmont keeper to send the game to halftime tied up. The Lady Eagles out shot Grossmont 10 to 4 in the opening half.
In the second half MSJC erupted for three goals to put the match away. Jamie Ayala started the second half scoring with a goal 6:30 in. Leola Cooper followed with a goal at the 18:45 mark of the second half and just 30 seconds later Yuvitza Garcia finished off the scoring with her first goal of the game. Taylor Wolf picked up eight saves in goal for MSJC all in the second half.
The Lady Eagles are now 1-0 on the season. MSJC will be at home again Friday when they host Norco (RCC) at 4 pm on the Menifee Campus.
