Soccer Team Makes History; Reaches Play-Offs
The MSJC women's soccer team broke new ground today when they were awarded an at large bid into the Southern California Regional play-offs.
The Lady Eagles will be making just the second play-off appearance for women's soccer in school history when they travel to Santa Barbara on Thursday to play Santa Barbara City College. The 1998 team won the conference championship and advanced to the Regional Tournament in MSJC's only other post season appearence. MSJC finished the regular season with a record of 12-6-2 and finished in second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division. SBCC will come into the contest with a record of 12-5-2 and they were the third place team from the Western States North Conference.
MSJC is seeded #18 in the Region while SBCC is seeded #15. The match on Thursday will begin at 2 pm. The winner of Thursday's match will be right back in action on Saturday as they will take on the #2 seed in Southern California.
The Lady Eagles will enter the play-offs led on offense by Dimitra Tsambasis who has 11 goals on the year and 27 total points. Brook Wooldrige has scored 6 goals and picked up 4 assists for the season for a total of 16 points. Goal Keeper Melissa Lopez has recorded all 12 of the Lady Eagles victories this year and has 9 shut outs on the season. A complete bracket will be posted as soon as it is available.
