Introduction
Mt. San Jacinto College is currently developing a Strategic Plan for 2011-2014. Under the leadership of the Institutional Planning Committee (IPC) the plan will be developed through community input, campus-wide involvement, and collaboration within and across units. Goals, objectives, activities, and measureable outcomes across service divisions will be developed in support of one another and grounded in the needs, trends, and data from related efforts. Goals, needs, etc., will be quantified to facilitate funding and assessment.
The Process
This will be a collaborative process which will begin with community focus groups to be held in each of the four major service areas of the district. Following the community focus groups, members of Instruction will have a retreat to develop academic/instructional program goals, objectives, activities, measureable outcomes, and resource needs to advance the Institutional Priorities. This process will include developing strategies within and across disciplines which will be finalized through collaboration with the Deans of Instruction to create context for the next version. The deans will then collaborate with the VPs followed by any additional review from faculty to finalize the information before sending it to those in Student Services. Student Services will then follow a similar format to build on/advance Instruction's goals with their own goals, activities and needs to advance the Institutional Priorities. The information from Instruction and Student Services is then given to Administration. Finally, Administrative Units build on and advance the goals of Instruction and Student Services with their own goals and activities to advance the Institutional Priorities.
Once the community, Instruction, Student Services, and Administrative Units have gone through the process the entire campus community will collaborate and review all drafts of the Strategic Plan up through the final version.
