Group library instruction in using research resources and locating information is available for any class. A typical orientation will not only cover call number locations and using reference resources, but will also focus on searching strategies using the library catalog, online journal databases and Internet sources, and will last from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Please give at least one week's notice to schedule your class. Complete the Library Instruction Request Form (PDF).
Instructors may place high-use materials on Reserve for their class. Typically, such materials are restricted to library use for a loan period of 2 hours. However, materials can be placed on Reserve for overnight checkout or longer. Please allow 48 hours for processing.
Books or journal articles that are not owned by our library may be obtained from other libraries through interlibrary loan. Interlibrary loan forms are available from the Circulation Desk or can be submitted online during Fall and Spring semesters. There is no charge for this service. Please allow at least 2 weeks for delivery. Submit an ILL request.
Our trained reference librarians are available at all times the library is open to answer questions, to help students and faculty use the library collection, and to direct them to needed resources.
Books from the circulating collection may be checked out for three weeks. Non-circulating reference materials may only be used in the library. Instructors for the classroom may check out videotapes. While students may not check videotapes out of the library, they can view them in the library upon request.
The Audiovisual Services Department is no longer part of the Library; it has been moved to Instructional Technology. Please forward any requests to the Instructional Technology Helpdesk at extension 3411. Requests can also be emailed to Help@msjc.edu.
