About the MSJC Police Department

Mt. San Jacinto College employs P.O.S.T. certified police officers whose peace officer authority extends throughout California.  The members of Mt. San Jacinto College Police Department are responsible for protecting life and property on or near any property owned or controlled by Mt. San Jacinto Community College District.

Police personnel enforce federal, state and local laws, including criminal laws and vehicle code violations, as well as investigate all criminal and traffic cases that occur on the Campus.  The campus Police Department also provides policing for a variety of events held on Mt. San Jacinto College for the community at large.

Mt. San Jacinto College Peace Officers receive their legal authority from section 830.32(a) of the California Penal Code.   They are vested with full law enforcement powers and responsibilities, identical to that of city Police and Sheriff.  Campus Police Officers are certified by, and meet the selection of training requirements set forth by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training for the State.
