APPLICATION PROCEDURE

COMPLETE STEPS 1-2 BEFORE SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION TO THE NURSING PROGRAM 

1. Submit an Admission application to MSJC.
 
2. Request an evaluation pre-requisite course work by the Nursing and Allied Health Unit (951) 639-5577. Complete an NAHU Evaluation Request, attach ALL your official college transcripts (from all institutions attended) and submit to the NAHU office by mail or in person to: (No transcript is required for classes taken at Mt. San Jacinto College).*Please note all foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an accredited U.S. company. A list of approved companies for foreign transcript evaluations can be found at www.naces.org.  You will receive your pre-requisite evaluation with a letter stating your program application eligibility via U.S. Postal mail.

3. Submit a Nursing Application and all supporting documentation, to the NAHU office between February 1st and February 28th. Applications must be received in the NAHU office no later than February 28th at 5pm. No applications will be accepted after February 28th (an application postmarked 02/28 that arrives via mail after 02/28 will NOT be accepted). Applications MUST be complete at the time of submission, or will not be considered for admission. No further paperwork will be accepted once applications are submitted. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Documents to be submitted with application must include, but are not limited to:

  • ALL TEAS results if taken previously (ONLY official TEAS results, sent by ATI will be accepted)
  • Copies of Letter of Eligibility and pre-requisite evaluation results
  • High School Graduation verification (copy of diploma or GED)

LVN – RN Applicants must submit a copy (back and front) of a current and active California Vocational Nursing License and transcripts from their Vocational Nursing Education with their application materials.

LVN-RN Application Filing period: September 1st - 30th. Applications are also available in the office.

TEAS POLICY

The Mt. San Jacinto College Nursing Education program has instituted a policy to assist students in preparation for a rigorous academic nursing program. Prospective nursing students must pass a Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) prior to program admission. This test assesses basic skills in Math, English, Reading, and Science.

Only selected applicants who are applying to the Mt. San Jacinto College nursing programs are invited to take the TEAS at Mt. San Jacinto College. Invited students are required to submit the first passing TEAS score,therefore preparation for this assessment is essential. Study resources can be found on the ATI website.

The MSJC Basic Skills Initiative, offers Academic Success Through Assessment and Remediation (ASTAR) Workshops for TEAS preparation. They are four hour intensive accelerated workshops in the subjects of Science, Math, English and Reading. Originally designed to enhance the TEAS test scores of select nursing students. Workshop attendance is voluntary and registration may be completed at eventbrite.com. Contact Gillian Patton for further assistance at (760) 468-1524.

Upon receiving official notification of potential program candidacy the MSJC NAHU the prospective nursing student must take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) at a designated testing center. The prospective nursing student who achieves a passing composite score (62%) will be further reviewed by program selection committee (PEAR).
 
REMEDIATION PROCEDURE 
All notified prospective students who achieve a 65% or lower on the areas of Math, Reading, English and/or Science must complete the following remediation procedure.


Please complete the assignments indicated in the remediation chart using the following resources:

1.     Blackboard: Log onto Blackboard and click on the TEAS Remediation course shell. The links for the individual sections are on the left side of the screen.

2.     ATI: Log onto atitesting.com to complete the TEAS focused review hours.

  • Locate an article in a professional nursing journal on the topic of medication side effects in an area of nursing and summarize the journal article by writing a 1 page summary (not including title and reference page).  Use the Menifee Valley Campus MSJC online library to review the professional journals in nursing and review the attached MSJC Associate Degree Nursing Policy and Procedure Student handbook for guidelines on APA formatting.

 

English Assignments (Blackboard/MSJC Library)

  • Grammar and Punctuation Diagnostics Exam (print and complete)
  • Locate an article in a professional nursing journal on the topic of safety practices in nursing and summarize the journal article by writing a 1 page summary (not including title and reference page). Use the Menifee Valley Campus MSCJ online library to review the professional journals in nursing and review the attached MSJC Associate Degree Nursing Policy and Procedure Student handbook for guidelines on APA formatting.

 

Present documentation of course completions to the NAHU Office by stated deadline on program acceptance letter
